More about the Finalists - Responsibility

Individual

Name : Eli Damatopoulos
Position : Administrative Assistant
Department : Cardiology
Site : Knox Private Hospital

Eli has spent a large amount of time writing an administrative department manual detailing clear instructions on every task performed as part of a succession plan for future staff members. She has taken the initiative to write this manual without request or influence from management. Having this comprehensive manual available will mean that different staff members can step into the role in a long or short term capacity and have all of the information they need to perform each duty, at their finger tips. It will significantly reduce the amount of time spent training new staff and making the transition into the role less daunting and more manageable. The administrative role in cardiology is complex and requires many different skills and a lot of local knowledge which Eli is imparting in her manual.

Team

Name of Team : Orthopaedics, Theatre
Person Representing Team : Tarryn Weare
Site : Frankston Private Hospital

The theatre orthopaedics team noticed that the waste management system used in another high volume speciality was inefficient, costly, a potential splash and spillage hazard along with the fluid waste being visible to patients. To circumvent these issues they worked with the other specialty team to introduce a fully enclosed waste capture system that had been used in the Orthopaedic theatres that immediately eliminated the issues and produced as a bonus a waste management cost saving due to a change in the disposal method for the fluid waste.

The team displayed initiative and responsibility for safe, efficient and effective waste management for the greater good of the overall theatre department and the Hospital and not just for their own surgical specialty area.
