Insurer greed to inflict more financial pain on patients

Following Bupa and the Australian Health Services Alliance (AHSA)’s refusal to acknowledge the viability crisis impacting private hospitals by addressing Healthscope’s funding concerns, Healthscope has today advised that it has no choice but to terminate its contracts with these funds.

Private health insurance underfunding forces Healthscope to introduce new fee for Bupa and AHSA members

Members of Bupa and the Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA) will be charged an out-of-pocket fee at Healthscope hospitals from 26th November 2024, due to these insurers’ failure to sustainably cover the cost of patient care. Healthscope wanted to avoid this outcome, however funding from Bupa and the AHSA is not sustainably covering the cost of hospital treatments. The fee will only apply to Bupa and The AHSA members funds and go towards covering a patient’s high-quality care.

Private hospitals launch public campaign against insurers that fail to fund patient care

Healthscope, Australia’s second largest private hospital group, has initiated a campaign to educate the public on the big health insurers who aren’t properly funding hospitals for the care provided to hundreds of thousands of patients. Bupa and the Australian Health Service Alliance which includes insurers such as Australian Unity, are refusing to meet the rising costs of patient care, including for cancer treatment, maternity and mental health, while hoarding super profits and surpluses. Local hospitals may reduce services, or close all together, if these insurers don’t release more funding.

Healthcare expansion in Melbourne’s northern suburbs

Melbourne’s northern suburbs will have even better access to healthcare from early 2024 with the reopening of La Trobe Private Hospital and redevelopment of Northpark Private. Simon Benedict, GM of both hospitals said, “Having two hospitals minutes away from each other that together will offer a huge range of services will provide even better access to great healthcare for local communities”.

Knox Private Hospital redevelopment unveiled

Knox Private Hospital today officially unveiled its multi-million redevelopment with a modern three storey extension. The redevelopment has added two new patient wards with ensuite single rooms, an upgraded diagnostic cardiology unit, new patient admissions area, a new main reception, a new expanded pharmacy and a new café have also been added.

Nepean Private Hospital redevelopment unveiled

Multi-million dollar investment to transform Mount Hospital

Healthscope is investing more than $35 million into a staged redevelopment of the Mount Hospital (Mount). Early works have commenced for the largest stage of the redevelopment, which will see upgrades to the hospital’s existing infrastructure and clinical facilities, with the goal of improving patient experience.
