Why Nominate?
We know that there are many inspiring examples of remarkable service provided by our staff every day that truly makes a difference to the quality our patients, clients and customers receive and that positively impacts our organisation. Saying thank you and showing one another that their effort is valued and appreciated is an important part of our culture. The STAR Awards builds on this peer recognition and is our way to formally recognise, celebrate and thank those exceptional individuals and teams that consistently ‘go the extra mile’ and demonstrate our STAR values in action.
Who can Nominate?
Nominations are open to all Healthscope and ACHA employees. As a peer recognition program we rely on your nomination. Nominations can be made by a peer, colleague, manager, or department head from their own or another department, site or business division.
What is the Nomination Process?
All nominations are collected and sorted by People and Culture. Only complete nominations will be considered.
Once the nomination period is closed, nominations are sorted in groups and given to State Panels which select both individual and team finalists for the group.
These finalists are sent to the National Judging Panel where they select the overall winners who are announced at the STAR Awards ceremony. The ceremony will formally recognise all finalists and winners will receive their awards and prizes in the presence of their peers and Healthscope senior leaders.
How to write a good nomination:
Do you want your nominee to be selected for an individual or team prize? STAR performers deserve the best possible chance of winning a STAR Award.
- Remember, it begins with YOU! Help the selection panel to learn more about your nominee and how they meet the award criteria.
- How is the nominees achievement/service above and beyond what might be normally expected?
- Address each question to ensure the selection panel has all the information it needs to know about your nominee.
- Give details and specific examples to show why the individual or team should win the award! Make every sentence count!
- Answer the “what” and “how.”
- WHAT did the nominee(s) do?
- Projects and/or activities above and beyond normal duties
- Any challenges or issues encountered and overcome
- HOW did the nominee(s) do it?
- WHAT were the results and/or impacts?
- WHAT did the nominee(s) accomplish?
- Are there specific benefits derived from those efforts?
- WHAT did the nominee(s) do?
- Stand out from the crowd!
- The selection panel is relying on your words and examples to “see” your nominee’s attributes and contributions. Paint a clear picture of who the nominee is for the selection panel.
- Don't use generalisations eg. “She is a great leader” is not a strong endorsement of your nominee.
- Try instead: "She is a great leader because she listens to her staff/colleagues, holds herself accountable, meets organisational goals, positively impacts our employees, etc...”
- The selection panel is relying on your words and examples to “see” your nominee’s attributes and contributions. Paint a clear picture of who the nominee is for the selection panel.
- Write about the positive outcomes that resulted from the nominee’s actions
- eg. Development and/or implementation of an outstanding initiative or achievement, delivering exceptional service, increasing staff morale, or sustainable use of our resources.
- Ask others for more information.
- Ask if they have a story or example they can share with you about your nominee.
- Provide quotes from other employees at your site, or get them to nominate the team or individual too.
- Make sure all contact details are correct
- Read and review your nomination before you submit
These tips may not guarantee your nominee will be selected, but they can help the panel select the best nominees!
