31 August 2026
MEDIA RELEASE
Healthscope has farewelled the team at National Capital Private Hospital ahead of the hospital’s transition to Ramsay Health Care.
National Capital Private Hospital opened in 1998 and has served the ACT community and beyond. Since opening, the hospital has almost doubled its capacity, from 88 to 148 beds, and has expanded the number of operating theatres, as well as building a six-storey extension in 2016.
Under Healthscope’s stewardship and the leadership of General Manager Elizabeth Porritt, National Capital Private Hospital has become a pioneer in delivering innovative healthcare.
They introduced new technology to improve the patient experience, including robotics such as the da Vinci Xi Surgical System, which enables precision surgery, in 2017. National Capital has also been recognised as a Centre of Excellence for lower-limb joint replacement (COEJR) and Robotic surgery (COERJR) by SRC CARE, the first outside the United States.
The hospital was also the first in the Territory to complete a Trans Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). National Capital has also built a strong capability for robotic surgery.
Hospital General Manager Elizabeth Porritt said, “Under Healthscope ownership, the hospital has gone from strength to strength and plays an important role in the ACT healthcare landscape.” “The hospital’s strong reputation, reflected in its consistently high patient experience score, is down to the excellent care our people and doctors provide to their patients.”
Healthscope CEO Nicole Waldron commented, “National Capital is an exceptionally high-performing hospital, with a high-performing, patient-focused team led by Elizabeth Porritt. While we are sad to say farewell to them, we wish them all the best for the future”
National Capital Private Hospital will transition to Ramsay Health Care on 1 September, becoming Ramsay Private Hospital National Capital.
National Capital Private Hospital is a 148-bed acute private hospital in Canberra, co-located with The Canberra Hospital. The hospital offers a range of surgical and medical services.
