MEDIA RELEASE

Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) has continued its strong performance across key elective surgery and emergency department measures, according to the Bureau of Health Information’s (BHI) latest Healthcare Quarterly report (October – December 2025).

NBH performed 844 elective (planned) surgeries, with all urgent, semi-urgent and non-urgent planned surgeries (100 per cent) performed on time. This is significantly better than the average for hospitals of a similar size in NSW (82.3 per cent).

In October – December 2025, there were 16,437 attendances at the emergency department, which is steady when compared to the same period in 2024.

Of the more than 16,000 presentations to the emergency department, 4,963 presentations were by patients with an imminently life-threatening condition (triage category 2), an increase of 19.9 per cent, or 822 presentations, compared with the same period in 2024.
Arrivals by ambulance also increased to 4,569 – up 2.0 per cent, or 90 arrivals, compared with the same quarter in 2024.

Between October and December 2025, NBH performed well in ambulance transfer of care, with nearly nine in 10 patients (89.7 per cent) transferred from ambulance to ED staff within the 30-minute benchmark time. This is significantly better than the average for hospitals of a similar size in NSW (78.9 per cent).

Despite high demand for high-level emergency care, the majority of patients (65.1 per cent) started their treatment on time, which is better than the average for comparable hospitals in NSW (62.4 per cent).

NBH Interim Chief Executive Officer Kathryn Berry said the results reflect the dedication and professionalism of the hospital’s staff.

“I am incredibly proud of the Northern Beaches team, who continue to deliver excellent care for our patients across both planned surgery and emergency care,” Ms Berry said.
