Healthscope announces closure of Parkwynd Private Hospital

17 February 2021

Following a detailed review of the future operations of Parkwynd Private Hospital, Healthscope has made the very difficult decision to close the facility over the coming months.

The review identified that major works required on the 106-year-old building to ensure the continued delivery of required standards of healthcare, including for accreditation, are not financially or logistically feasible.

State Manager Healthscope SA Paul Evans says it’s an extremely difficult and sad day to announce the closure of the East Terrace site, which has been providing high-quality healthcare to South Australians for more than 100 years.

“The investment required to keep operating and to continue to meet accreditation standards is not viable or sustainable.

“The decision in no way reflects on the tremendous skills, care and dedication of our staff, who have forged a proud reputation for delivering outstanding patient care, support and outcomes,” Mr Evans says.

“We have looked in detail at opportunities to repurpose Parkwynd Private Hospital and keep the facility operating in another capacity but none of these options have proven viable.

“Our priority is to work with our dedicated and skilled staff to identify redeployment opportunities at other suitable sites.

“We are also exploring opportunities through SA Health for the potential to assist the State with the COVID vaccine rollout.”

Healthscope is very proud of Parkwynd Private Hospital’s history in providing high quality healthcare and patient care remains a top focus.

“We will be contacting all patients regarding their continuity of care and will work closely with our doctors to identify suitable arrangements for future consulting and treatment practices at other facilities,” Mr Evans says.

“Parkwynd Private Hospital remains committed to supporting its staff between now and closure as they continue their vital work in supporting and caring for our patients.”

The closure of the 23-bed facility will be staged, with operations winding down to a close on Friday 9 April.
