Humans of Healthscope with Endorsed Enrolled Nurse Steven Hall
Steven Hall is a remarkable Healthscope nurse, mentioned by name in positive patient feedback no fewer than 17 times throughout 2020. His is an empathy born of experience. “I’ve been very sick myself in my life, and I can appreciate what a good nurse can do, in making your time during your hospital stay a lot better. I basically want to help people!” Steven, who works on 6 South, a surgical ward at Prince of Wales Private Hospital started as an orderly eight years ago and three years later began nursing. The trust and confidence his patients have in him is a reflection of his care for them and their experience. “What makes an outstanding patient experience is simply being empathetic and thoughtful regarding the patients’ needs and wants while under your care as the medical professional. Simply asking the question ‘how are you’ can change someone’s day and show them that you do care and are willing to try and help them get better.”
It is no wonder that he was awarded the Prince of Wales Hospital Staff Excellence Award at for exemplary service to the hospital and its patients this year. “It’s a great place to work at due to the team that I work with, as mentioned earlier. From the doctors, to the nurses, to the allied health workers and all the administrative and housekeeping staff; they all make such a difference to the workplace morale and make Prince of Wales Private a great place to work. Thank you all of you!”
Away from work Steven is an investor across multiple markets and commodities and also an amateur bodybuilder who loves pushing his physique as far as possible. “I’d like to retire early in my life, and be able to give back to the community and help the less fortunate. I’ve achieved many financial goals so far this year, allowing me to set myself up for the future.” So what does his future hold? “My aim is to drop down to part time nursing in the near future, allowing me to pursue other endeavours in life including investing, but still allowing me to give back and help people on a part-time basis as a nurse. I’ll always want to be able to give back in some way.”
“I love being able to give back to people that are at their most vulnerable and need help.”
We join Steven’s patients in celebrating his contribution this International Nurses Day.
