Northpark Private Hospital bolsters orthopaedic services with ROSA robotic technology

Melbourne, VIC – Dec, 2021 – Northpark Private Hospital has become the first Victorian Healthscope facility to acquire the high tech Robotic Orthopaedic Surgical Assistant (ROSA). By collecting individual patient data before and during surgery ROSA helps surgeons tailor each patient’s knee replacement to their own individual anatomical requirements.

General Manager, Charmayne Thompson said of the ROSA acquisition:

“The ROSA offer several advantages for surgeons and patients. It can improve the accuracy of implantation during surgery which allows for better functional outcomes in patients. My colleagues and I are excited to be trained on this world-class equipment in coming weeks and look forward to incorporating it into procedures,” said Dr Love, one of surgeons in the orthopaedic team.

The successful acquisition of ROSA was led by interest from a number of key orthopaedic surgeons and is part of Northpark Private’s commitment to work with its Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) to invest in new equipment to deliver better outcomes for patients.

The ROSA Knee System supports surgeons in performing Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) with features to assist with the bone resections, as well as assessing the state of the soft tissues to facilitate implant positioning intraoperatively. It also supports Clinical efficiency through imaging options and reduced instrumentation.

Up to eight Northpark Private surgeons will be trained to use the device for knee arthroplasty operations in coming weeks, with the first patients expected to be treated in early 2022.
