Alyson is Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner who coordinates a Consultation Liaison (Psychiatry) Service to Holmesglen Private Hospital. Although the Consultation Liaison (CL) role is well established in the public healthcare sector there are no local CL examples of existing in the private sector and hers is the only role within Healthscope currently. The increasing presence of mental health issues in the acute patient setting is a growing reality for all nurses, doctors and allied health professionals. It is a direct reflections of the increasing incidence of mental health issues in society and the growing realization of how diagnosis of medical conditions impacts people in general.

Alyson works both collaboratively and autonomously within the Holmesglen healthcare team by providing an interface between acute care and psychiatric care. She provides clinical leadership to VMOs, nursing and allied health staff. She has developed and implemented this unique and innovative role which was borne out of her own initiative and effort and not in response to a corporate driven project.

In 2019, Parkwynd management made a business decision to operate as a 6-day surgical only facility. The ward supported the change of business model to improve hospital efficiencies. Staff have embraced and are positive about the changes and the future of Parkwynd. It is encouraging and reassuring that Parkwynd staff have belief in the management team's decision making and have supported this transition. They have also taken this opportunity to educate and multiskill three members of the support services team to work across departments as required. The support from Parkwynd's employees has been very uplifting for the management team, to know that staff have faith in the decisions made, that are not always easy and worked together to ensure a succesful outcome for the hospital.
